The physiological sigh: a one-minute breathing reset
A physiological sigh is two inhales through the nose, the second one a short top-up sip, followed by a long, slow exhale through the mouth. Repeating it a few times is a quick way to downshift when your body feels like it's running hot.
Step by step
- Take a normal breath in through your nose.
- Before breathing out, sip in a little more air on top of it.
- Let it all go with a long, slow exhale through your mouth.
- Repeat two to five times, then breathe normally.
